Spiritual Life
The spiritual life at Martin Luther is centered around and focused on Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. The students and faculty have a number of set opportunities throughout a school week to place their focus on the work of the Cross. Chapel (morning devotional time) is offered two mornings a week where students and faculty come together to focus on God’s Word and the work of Jesus Christ. It gives the students and faculty a chance to focus on the work of Jesus Christ through the reading of the Word, through song, and through some meditation led by a visiting pastor, faculty member, students, or special guests. We begin the other days of the school week (3) with prayers led by the faculty and we end each day with student led prayers. These are set times, but our teachers always have opportunities to implement God’s Word into their individual classrooms.
Theology classes are held everyday and are required of each student all four years. God’s Word is the main focus of study in the theology classroom. It is hoped that the Holy Spirit is given the opportunity to work on each student. To teach from a Christ-centered perspective is to do much more that espouse “Christian values”. It is to infuse the faith into every aspect of life and learning. We are not perfect at Martin Luther; we are sinners just like everyone else, seeking to become more and more Christ-like ( through the work of the Holy Spirit) in our intellects and spirit.
Also through theology classes, students are encouraged to do a required amount of service hours each year. The service is focused on Christ telling us to love our neighbor. Students are encouraged to perform the service at their churches, grade school, at Martin Luther, or for some community organization. During the school year, various offerings are taken. These funds are distributed to organizations that help others and present the Gospel of Christ.
At Martin Luther we hope all activities are done because Christ suffered, died, rose, and ascended for us all. We therefore are dedicated to work with each other in these spiritual life activities because we are God’s people living together at Martin Luther High School.
