At Martin Luther, we nurture creativity through artistic opportunities, including Choir, Band, Theater, and Visual Arts. Whether on stage, in the studio, or through music, every student is encouraged to explore and maximize their talents.

Visual Arts

Martin Luther offers a wide variety of art forms such as painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, photography, video, filmmaking, graphic design, and animation. Students begin with Art Foundations where they will develop creative solutions to challenges based on a series of limitations in both 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional designs and how they impact each other. AP Studio Art is available to students who have completed a determined number of prerequisites that relate to the student’s chosen medium; drawing, painting, photography, ceramics, and/or sculpture.

The Visual Arts Competition (VAC) is for art students in grades 9-12. The competition features studio categories involving a long-term project and an onsite short-term project. There is an annually changing theme that all work correlates with. Students can place individually and/or the team is able to advance to the Regional and State level. Competitors are involved in in-depth research on at least a dozen selected artists whose work relates to the year’s theme. Teams also compete in a “Critical Thinking” team project as well as an “Art History Quiz Bowl”.
